Kidstruction

A tightening economy impacts the good work of Saint Louis Children’s Hospital. Castle Contracting has long had a close association with the hospital, both as a contractor on site, and as a benefactor. That relationship was amplified in 2009 when Rich Ledbetter joined the SLCH Development Board, and worked closely with the hospital to create Kidstruction.

Because large charitable gifts are harder to find, Kidstruction is a different kind of outreach, it’s just $1 at a time. In December 2009, Castle tradespersons were asked to consider donating $1 per hour, for each hour worked over a single workweek. Overwhelmingly the good people of Castle participated at more than 90% and some even donated up to $5 per hour worked.

“It was amazing to discover how impactful Children’s has been in the lives of Castle employees. I had no idea the number of Castle kids who’ve benefitted from the hospital,” said Rich Ledbetter.

Castle asked its office employees, vendors, suppliers and friends to consider donations, and the result was nearly $9000 in monies for Kidstruction.

“The idea here, is that lots of Saint Louis companies will jump on board Kidstruction in 2010. If we got even a small percentage of the hours worked over a single week…we could end up with a sustainable annual give in the hundreds of thousands of dollars…all based on $1 at a time.”

Kidstruction 2010 is scheduled for May, and for more information please contact rich@castlestl.com
