Paul Hansen Equipment of San Diego Becomes Castle Contracting

In 2018, Castle Contracting acquired Paul Hansen Equipment, a 50-year-old underground utility specialty contractor with a deep history of serving the San Diego community. As of January 1, 2022, Paul Hansen Equipment will continue operations as Castle Contracting. While the name changes, the legacy and unwavering commitment to clients and quality remains.

Paul Hansen Equipment and Castle have been working deliberately on the transition for years, and the full transfer of ownership from former Paul Hansen President Mark Felio finalized in September after his retirement. Mark was integral in guiding and mentoring the team through this change. Paul Hansen Equipment has experienced exceptional growth since 2018, adding employees and expanding services from underground utilities to full earthwork capabilities, and more than quadrupling revenue.

Jason Mrozek has served as vice president of Paul Hansen Equipment since 2018 and will continue in this role overseeing all Castle operations in Southern California. Jason and his team will work out of their existing office in the San Diego suburb of El Cajon, completing all existing Paul Hansen Equipment projects as planned. Union signatory agreements are also transferred to Castle.

Mike Pranger, who has served as vice president of Castle based in St. Louis, will continue in this role, overseeing operations in the central part of the U.S. including the St. Louis and Omaha offices.

The Castle and Paul Hansen teams have been collaborating and supporting each other behind the scenes since 2018. By working together under the Castle name, we can now serve our clients and communities even better by combining resources, best practices, our project portfolio and expertise. With our pool of talented professionals, we are well equipped to provide solutions to civil and infrastructure needs and challenges. We can also provide our people with more growth opportunities and rewarding careers while serving our mission to be the best sitework contractor in America.

Combined, Castle now has an office team of 70 people and a craft workforce of approximately 250. Castle Contracting is a wholly-owned subsidiary of McCarthy Holdings, Inc. and is 100 percent employee-owned. To apply for open job opportunities with Castle, please visit our Career postings.
