Women in Construction Week - Craft Spotlight

Construction provides rewarding career opportunities for both men and women, yet women still make up just a small percentage of the construction workforce. For the 25th Anniversary of Women in Construction Week, we are celebrating by promoting the work of women in construction so others can learn more about construction careers available to them.

Women In Construction Week Spotlight: Michelle Anderson

We recently talked with Michelle Anderson, Craft Hauler/Driver at Castle to learn more about what she does, why she enjoys it and what inspired her to choose a construction career.

As a truck driver, I’ve always enjoyed the opportunity to be outdoors on the job but enjoy it even more now that I work with an inclusive group of people. I haven’t felt this welcome in any company I’ve worked with.

My reason for choosing the construction profession was more practical than inspirational. It wasn’t a lifelong dream of mine — it was a means to an end. I had been laid off and was struggling to find a job. As a single mom, I couldn’t afford to wait for my “dream job.” I had to apply for the available job and that was driving a truck. Luckily I got the job, because I love it.

The best career advice I've been given was you can do anything with a positive attitude better than you can do it with a negative one.
