Castle carried out an $18 million earthwork contract, supporting the $500 million construction of the Double Black Diamond photovoltaic tracking solar plant, a 600 MWac/775 MWdc Double Black Diamond, in Virden, IL.  Our scope of work included designing, then installing various roads, project entrances, and laydown yards, as well as performing mass grading for the 4,100-acre site.

In addition to the primary earthwork, we acquired a second contract, with Sargent Electric Company, to complete electrical trenching. With expert management, innovative design, and dedication to safety, Castle propelled Double Black Diamond toward commercial operation, encompassing 1.6 million solar panels generating enough emissions-free energy to power more than 100,000 households, yearly.
