OrthoNebraska Elkhorn-Ambulatory Surgery Center Addition
Omaha, NE
In 2019, the OrthoNebraska Elkhorn Surgery Center new construction established access to premium orthopedic and musculoskeletal specialists throughout the greater Omaha area. Throughout the 2019 construction phases, Castle performed a full civil scope. Five years later, OrthoNebraska partnered with Castle Omaha for a second time to deliver underground utilities and infrastructure services for a 28,000 sf addition to same surgery center.
The addition allows the facility to scale its patient capacity and services, while introducing upgrades to the original building, including the installation of a new MRI machine. To accommodate the new technology, our crew provided site logistics and subgrade preparation, modifying the existing structure for the MRI machine’s mechanical pads. Castle’s scoped also included stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP) development, site demolition, structural excavation for under-slab plumbing, and site utilities for storm sewer, sanitary sewer, as well as site domestic and fire water service lines.
Conflicts between new utility installations and preexisting site utilities, including pipe size changes throughout a total of 1,000 LF of domestic, fire service, storm, and temporary sewer service-pipeline, required the project team to implement alternative approaches, such as hydro-excavation, to traditional processes. These preventative measures reduced the risk of accidental damage to existing utilities and supported efficient design-alteration. This strategic planning also enabled Castle to perform its scope without disrupting Elkhorn Surgery Center’s daily operations, maintaining the well-being of healthcare personnel, patients and the quality of treatment.
